Well, we haven’t written one of these in a while. But we do have a lot of fun stuff coming up to take the edge off the doldrums of winter. We know some of you like to ski, and we have heard beer is part of that experience, so grab a 4-pack or three before you head north! Read on for some cool collaboration projects and fun events on the calendar.
Big Beer Release
In case you didn’t see the social medias, we released a bunch of canned beer this past week. We put all four year-round beers in 12oz 6-packs. We also canned a new version of the Black Is Beautiful beer for 2023. We scaled the recipe down a bit and created an 8.5% Imperial Stout and put it into 12oz 4-packs for $24. 100% of the profits will be donated to non-profits that work locally to support equality and inclusion. We also canned Chaos Pale Ale, Winter Sour (a dark sour with cherry and cocoa nibs) and Beer Is Art South African Pilsner.
What is a South African Pilsner, you say? Well, we made it up. 🙂 We took our Italian Pilsner recipe and modified it to include sorghum and African Queen hops, two ingredients used in Africa to make beer.
Also, Beer Is Art? What the heck is that? Well, this woman, Obee Malope, emailed us a couple of months ago explaining her business that she started in South Africa called Beer Is Art. Unemployment continues to be a problem for South Africans and Obee passionately believes that with some education about beer and how it is made, it can be a valid path to employment for them. We collaborated on this beer, hence the sorghum and Queen hops, and a portion of the proceeds will be sent to Obee to support her mission.
If you have the time we have done some Instagram Lives together and shared them as posts for you to watch. As you might know, Paul gets a little long winded, but she is a delight and you will love her.
Taproom Events
Acoustic Covers with Toby Turner – A Series
Our very own Mug Clubber, Toby Turner, was here this past weekend to play some acoustic covers for us. If you haven’t heard Toby play before, he is super talented and his style fits the taproom perfectly. Even more exciting, we are starting a whole series with him! So, if you missed it he will be back:
Saturday, February 4, 6-9pm
Friday, March 10, 6-9pm
Saturday, April 8, 1-4pm
Thursday, January 26 – Hill Country Market BBQ – 5:30-8pm
Let’s taco bout it! Robert is coming back and he is bringing taco bowls! We have also set up a series of pop-ups with him but need to confirm dates and menus before we promote it. Keep your eyes and ears open for more information.
Saturday, January 28 – Barks & Brews with Canine Collaborative – 11-12pm
These classes have been wildly popular and this one is currently sold out. However, if you don’t like dogs in taprooms, it will be packed with puppers until about 2pm. But if you like to try and snuggle every dog you see, show up at noon.
Friday, February 3 – Mug Club Raffle for New Members – 7pm
If anyone is interested in joining our Mug Club, this is your night! Show up, grab a raffle ticket and enjoy the anxiety of hoping for your number to be called. If your ticket is pulled, here is what you get:
- First you gotta pay $150
- A 20 oz mug to use at the taproom for the same price as a 12oz pour
- $1 off growler fill/4-pack
- Exclusive Mug Club swag
- One Mug Club only party
- 20% off merchandise
- $100 off one Taproom rental
Sunday, February 5 – Sunday Supper at Gentile
We have been wanting to start this series for a while now. This is one of the things we are going to partner with Hill Country on that we also need to confirm before we widely promote it. But, basically, there will be one option available, one plate. That is what is for supper that day. The vendor might even presell them so that is it easier to prep for the event. So, you will decide ahead of time that you are coming that Sunday and your food will be waiting for you. And of course, beer.
Saturday, February 11 – Barre Fight – 10:45am
It’s not just for ballerinas anymore! Marissa is an amazing instructor and if you want some tough love ahead of Valentine’s Day, this is for you. She will be selling tickets through her website soon! This is also another series that we plan to have every second Saturday of the month.
Friday, February 17 – Pour Painting Night with Lowell Dorr – 7pm
If you love creating things, this is for you! We have partnered with local artist Lowell Dorr and he will help you create your very own “pour painting.” Don’t know what that is? Well, show up and find out by doing! We are finalizing the payment details but if you are interested, save the date and check back with us about it.
Sunday, February 26 – Gentile Book Club (ReadABV) – High Noon
Was one of your New Year resolutions to read more? Well, we have a club for that! If you haven’t been to a meeting yet, they are super casual and fun. Just read the book of the month, show up for the meeting, enjoy a beer or two and help choose the next months book. The February pick is Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. And we obviously encourage you to shop local if you are buying a hardcopy.
